A Tribute to R.H. Menzel

The Last Woodcarver

In 2013, Robert Menzel wrote:

“My artwork is intended for the discerning folk-art or wood-carving collector who appreciates fine craftsmanship, and shares my reverence for heritage & time honored traditions.

I am, technically, a folk artist because I am not formally trained.  But, my natural gift (honed by decades of creating sculptures in various media) has allowed me to win competitions against numerous academically trained artists.  My subject matter is inspired by nature, history and mythology.  Each piece is unique, skillfully crafted from fine-grained hardwoods such as birch, maple and fruitwoods.  And, woodcarving is more eco-friendly than any other sculpting technique.”
